The Coming Kingdom
What does it mean to live in a kingdom that is already here but not yet fully revealed? That is the tension at the heart of this profound exploration of Luke 17 and 18. Drawing from the Pharisees' pointed question about when the kingdom of God would come, we are invited into a sweeping biblical journey that stretches from the Garden of Eden all the way to the final return of the Son of Man. The kingdom of God, understood as God's people in God's place under God's rule, is not a distant political reality waiting to be established. It is a present spiritual reality inaugurated through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and it takes root not in geographic borders or religious pedigree but in the transformed hearts of those who have been forgiven and made new. The Pharisees missed it because they were looking in the wrong direction, trusting in outward conformity rather than inward renewal. We are challenged to ask ourselves the same honest question: where are our hearts truly anchored? The kingdom has come near. The king is in our midst. And that changes everything about how we live, love, and see the world around us.
