Are You Ready for Your Master's Return

What does it truly mean to be ready for Christ's return? In this powerful exploration of Luke 12:35-59, we are confronted with a picture of Jesus that challenges our comfortable assumptions and calls us to honest self-examination. The passage paints a vivid picture of servants who must remain watchful and faithful while their master is away, and the stakes could not be higher. The rewards for faithfulness are extraordinary, including the stunning image of the master himself serving his faithful servants, a gesture so countercultural in the ancient world that it would have stopped listeners in their tracks. But the consequences of unfaithfulness are equally striking. We are invited to ask ourselves a penetrating question: where is our focus? The passage draws a sharp contrast between treasure stored up on earth and treasure stored up in heaven, between living for ourselves and living for the kingdom of God. For those of us surrounded by comfort and abundance, this is not an easy question to sit with. Yet it is precisely the question we most need to wrestle with, because the ease of our lives can quietly become the greatest obstacle to our spiritual faithfulness.
