The Church's Mission

This message challenges us to examine our primary profession as followers of Christ. While we may introduce ourselves by our earthly occupations, our true calling transcends job titles and daily responsibilities. Drawing from John 20:19-23, we encounter the resurrected Jesus commissioning His fearful disciples with a mission that remains our mission today. The beauty of this passage is that Jesus doesn't immediately send them out to work, but first offers them peace and shows them His scars. Our mission begins not with frantic activity, but with worship. Eternal life, as Jesus defines it in John 17, is knowing God intimately, treasuring Him above all else. We were hardwired for worship, designed to respond to greatness, and if we're not captivated by the glory of God, we'll inevitably chase after lesser lovers. The mission of the church flows from this foundation: we worship God deeply, and from that place of wonder and gratitude, we become His witnesses. This isn't about checking evangelism boxes or fulfilling religious obligations. It's about being so transformed by knowing God that we cannot help but share the forgiveness we've found in Christ. The Holy Spirit empowers this mission, reminding us that we don't know what we don't know apart from God's grace opening our eyes to see Jesus.
