Advent at Southwest Hills: Sustaining Our Faith

We love celebrating that Christ has come into the world!  He came to save sinners, and we are so thankful that He did!  Join us for our Advent sermon series as we study our long-awaited Savior: Jesus Christ.  What joy we have that we can worship the same Messiah today in Beaverton, that the shepherds worshipped in a a stable in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago.
In the Old Testament, God had promised many blessing to His people: land, freedom, protection, and peace and prosperity. These promises would be fulfilled through one of David’s sons who would reign forever and bring to completion the kingdom of God. But in 586BC, the Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar conquered God’s people, and everything God had promised them seemed lost.

Yet, even when Israel was at its lowest point, God's people did not give up waiting for their Savior.  One way God sustained Israel's faith was through the book of Psalms.  As we study the Psalms today, we can see how this book sustains faith in God’s people when they are waiting for God to show up. The Jewish people were waiting for the first advent of the Davidic King. We are waiting for the second advent when he returns in the full glory described in Revelation!
