CHRISTMAS EVE AT SOUTHWEST HILLS:
GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY!
The joyous Season of Advent is here again! Perhaps you’re happy and merry, filled with joyful expectancy, or perhaps the holidays bring unbearable expectations of more to-dos and to-buys. Perhaps you can’t wait to sing those carols, pull out the nativity scene, and decorate the tree. Or perhaps you dread the added drama of meals with family you’d rather avoid, or the sadness that there isn’t enough family around and you feel extra alone. All of us feel a varied spectrum of emotion and anticipation.
Yet remember God our Creator who orchestrates and ordains all the days of our lives through His kind providence. He has seen fit to give us this season, a season of both celebration and anticipation. Celebrating that Jesus has come, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!” Anticipating that Christ will come again, right all wrongs, and make all things new.
This Advent season we open up to the Gospel of Luke, chapters 1 and 2. As the New Year begins, we will continue to journey through this wonderful story, as the beloved physician Luke faithfully recounts the greatest story ever told, “Behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people!”
Christ has come, brothers and sisters! Christ is coming again. May Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, captivate our affections this Christmas! May Jesus be our joy!
